Jesus said in Matthew 5:44 to “love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
We pray for those in the news and for those who need the love of Jesus in their hearts. If there is anyone you feel compelled to pray for in this blog, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
One of the biggest issues today facing our government is that of immigration. Our country’s approximately 700,000 “Dreamers,” immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as young children have, for a few months now, faced the threat of deportation. It’s unnerving on many, many fronts, especially for those facing said deportation.
Last September, President Trump ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, throwing the future of “Dreamers” into uncertainty. The issue has drudged through Congress and the courts, and it has become highly politicized. The Supreme Court refused to hear the case Monday, giving dreamers a bit of a reprieve but undoubtedly little peace.
They deserve better from our government. Therefore we pray:
“Dear Father in heaven, we know you are fully aware of the immigration situation our country continues to face, and the problems our government have encountered in finding a solution. It’s a dilemma, for sure, on both sides, but we ask you now to help Congress and President Trump find to find a permanent solution that will help these people continue to pursue their American dream. Give them peace in their hearts to know that they won’t be threatened with deportation, that they don’t have to constantly look over the shoulder and dread a deadline that would send them back to their country of origin and throw their lives into chaos. Some of these people have your heart and are doing their part to advance the kingdom. Particularly protect those people and let them continue on their journey.
At the same time, help give the government and President Trump discernment and to continue to protect this country. For certain there are those who would like to destroy our country and kill innocent people. Let those people be brought to light and dealt with as you would see fit. Dear Lord, help stop the bickering and the hatred this issue has brought about, and bring about unity for our country and for your kingdom. Help President Trump discern where he has the wrong ideals and help him yield to the Holy Spirit to do what you what have him do. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.”
“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” (Lev. 19:33-34)
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (Matt. 25:40)
